Usher Hopes 'Scream' Will Be the Song Of The Summer

'Let's get going, summer is almost here!' Usher tells MTV News.
By Christina Garibaldi

On top of his club-banging hits and soulful voice, Usher has another impressive skill: creating the song of summer. Usher has ruled the airwaves in the summer for years, with hits like "You Make Me Wanna" and "U Remind Me" making fans roll down their windows and pump up their radios to his infectious tracks.

Most recently, in 2010, Usher hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer months with his inescapable hit "OMG," and now he's looking to repeat that success with "Scream," the second single from his seventh studio album.

"Let's get going, summer is almost here!" Usher told MTV News. "It's intended to be that, but I don't think that was the only thing. We thought about live performance, we thought about mixing and matching and also giving people an energy that only [producer Max Martin] would be able to create."

"Scream" is the latest single from Usher's just-released album, Looking 4 Myself, which he hopes will not only get people on the dance floor, but also affect them in a more personal manner.

"If I'm gonna move you, I want to move you. I hope that it could be something that could be life-changing," the singer last month during "MTV First: Usher." "You may be going through something real crazy, who knows, and just need to get out and just enjoy yourself. So I always think about the club, I always think about that song that will be able to let you out of that slump, if you're in it."

Usher's latest album, which he called an "evolution" of sound, is just the next step in his musical risk-taking. He credits longtime producer Jermaine Dupri with the opportunity to reach many different genres of music.

"If I do track back to the first time I was about to take a risk, even though it wasn't about my direction, it was more so by Jermaine Dupri's direction with 'You Make Me Wanna,' " Usher said. "You didn't really hear that tone or that instrument on top of an R&B record, so it was an incredible collaboration or mixture of urban and classic R&B or pop... that really began to open up the conversation and allow people to understand, 'Oh, wow, this is not just an artist that you could put in a box or put in a specific category.' "

Are you excited for Usher's album? Flanked by sons Sean Preston and Jayden James and her fiance, Jason Trawick, the 30-year-old pop star and co. passed through security at the local airport in Maui, Hawaii after spending time together on a fun-filled vacation.

Having spent her Independence Day in the Aloha State, Miss Spears was among the many stars posting well-wishing messages on the Stateside holiday, as she penned, "Happy 4th of July from the Aloha State!" Britney tweeted on Wednesday.

Later treating her followers to a look at her toned swimsuit shape, the "Gimme More" songstress tweeted a shot of her bikini clad self alongside her boys, adding, "Getting ready for some pool time! Having a blast xxoo" she wrote.

Justin Bieber's 'Maria' Is His 'Billie Jean,' Manager Says

Scooter Braun insists to MTV News that track about paternity allegation is not based directly on Mariah Yeater scandal.
By Jocelyn Vena

If you wondered just how personal Justin Bieber would get on his chart-topping new album, Believe, the answer is pretty personal. But much like an episode of "Law & Order," the names and events have been altered to protect the innocent.

This is most obvious on his baby-mama-drama track, "Maria," on which Bieber addresses a paternity allegation made against him by a fan. In real life, Bieber faced such an allegation, and it eventually faded away. If you ask anyone in the singer's camp, however, the track isn't exactly about a girl named Mariah Yeater.

"I think he has [a lot of personal songs on the album]. I think 'Be Alright' [is]. I think a lot of the album is very, very personal, but I think for tabloid purposes 'Maria' sparks a lot of interest," his manager, Scooter Braun, told MTV News. "But I don't know why. It's not about anyone. It's just a story. You know, legally it's not about anyone."

It might not be about someone with the initials "M" and "Y" directly, but Braun does say it speaks a lot to Bieber's celebrity status. Every move he makes is a headline, a topic that has been dissected in pop music for decades.

"Michael [Jackson] had this amazing record called 'Billie Jean' and [producer] Rodney Jerkins, Justin and I had a conversation about kind of what had Justin been through the last year and just how people talk and make up stories about him," Braun explained. He added that getting all the facts about a Bieber-related story isn't always necessary because "when it comes to Justin Bieber the hype alone is enough to get you CNN."

That theory ties into the paternity claim, which quickly escalated into one of the biggest stories of Bieber's young life, regardless of the truth of Yeater's claim. "There was a story that took place that was so false that it should have never even seen the light of day," Braun said. "And it ended up becoming international news. He has to deal with that kind of stuff and he wrote a song kind of addressing it and it's a pretty awesome song. And it's our 'Billie Jean.' "

Jersey Shore STD Contract Shocker

No one could see this coming, I’m sure. I mean, the ridiculous one night stands that have become part of almost every episode of the Jersey Shore are nasty enough for the producers to wear protection. At least that’s what one tabloid is reporting. That protection was not a condom, but a clause in the contract that each crew member had to sign before the recent season went underway — at least according to reports. The Daily Mail claims that there was an actual “STD Clause” in the documents that MVP had to sign before hitting the grimy clubs of the Jersey Shore. The language apparently prevented them from suing MTV or the producers if they managed to walk away from the season with any extra infections or diseases. Yuck. That is so disgusting. But what is more disgusting is that any girl would actually go home with these guys. You know that you are on camera. And you know that they hook up like crazy with every drunk girl they can talk into coming home to the house. Aren’t you embarrassed? Do you think you will ever live it down? Unless you are a stripper, how do you think [...]
