Movie Review: ?Brave?

Over the weekend, I made my way out to the movie theater to see the new Disney/Pixar film Brave and while I generally liked the film, I’m sorry to say that I didn’t love the film. Because Brave is a Pixar film, I had high expectations concerning animation, character development and story. Again, I’m sorry [...]

Katy Perry Says She 'Did Everything' To Save Her Marriage

Perry's 'Part of Me' documentary gives fans a candid look at the demise of her relationship with Russell Brand.

It's been a whirlwind of a year for pop superstar Katy Perry. In 2011, she earned six #1 singles off her Teenage Dream album, embarked on a worldwide tour and endured a very public breakup from Russell Brand.

And now fans can share all these experiences and more as Perry is set to release her 3-D documentary, "Part of Me," on July 5th. The movie chronicles her unparalleled year as she has career highs, but suffers personal lows.

And it's those very personal moments, especially with Brand, that many will find most surprising. For the past six months, Perry has been mum on the issue of her divorce, and now for the first time, she is opening up about the split.

The film picks up just a few months after the two tied the knot, as Perry embarks on her biggest tour to date, the California Dreams Tour. Fans witness Perry put in hours of hard work preparing for the tour and traveling to hundreds of different cities. Yet, with the success that she was having onstage, it was offstage where things were falling apart.

It seems her new marriage and a grueling tour schedule were not mixing well, but it was not from lack of trying: Perry was adamant that while on her nearly yearlong tour, she take time out to see her husband, but in the end, it just couldn't save the marriage.

At one point, while flying to one of her tour stops, Perry admits to the camera, "I'm trying to keep my marriage alive."

"Part of Me" gives fans a rare glimpse inside a celebrity marriage, with Brand featured throughout the film. Some moments are touching, like when the comedian comes to wish her well on the opening night of her tour, yet some are heartbreaking to watch. In one scene, Perry is crying uncontrollably, delaying the start time of the concert, but like a true professional, she chokes back the tears and puts on a brave face for her fans.

Perry talks candidly about Brand in the film, revealing that it was her skyrocketing career that could have played into the downfall of her marriage. "I thought to myself, 'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose [between the partner and my career]. They won't be threatened or have weird motives.' Then I started to realize, that's not true," she admits. Yet, when asked in the film whether she still misses Brand, Perry begins to cry and admits that she does, but says she did everything she could to make it work.

"I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail," she shares. "And I did everything it took, but it still failed."

Perry recently told MTV News that even though the subject of her divorce is difficult to deal with, she felt she would be doing her fans a disservice if she didn't include it in the film.

"The truth will always prevail," Perry said. "Everything has to be handled integrously and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room," she explained. "If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and [my breakup] wasn't at all mentioned, like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird. What is she trying to hide?' I don't like to hide."

Justin Bieber's Concussion Drama Plays Out On TV

Bieber falls hard after crashing into a glass wall in Paris, in part one of NBC special.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Justin Bieber took it "All Around the World" for his NBC special, named after the song of the same name. In it, Bieber heads to London, Norway and Paris to spread the gospel of his new album <i>Believe.</i> But before he started promoting the album, fans were treated to footage of him in the recording studio with the likes of pals Big Sean and Drake.</P><P>"I think Believe is so cool. 'Believe' can be used in so many different ways," he said of the album's feel-good title. "Whether you believe in your dreams, believe in yourself."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Behind The Scenes With Justin Bieber" id="vid:793664" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Once the studio sessions for the album wrapped, Bieber hit the road for not only a worldwide promotional tour in support of his new music, but also to put on free shows for his fans. First, he's shown in Norway, where fans famously got a bit too excited over his appearance in Oslo. "I guess I'm cool with being a heartthrob," he said. "I'm 18 and having a lot of girls like me isn't a bad thing."</P><P>"I've never experienced anything like it. I'm experiencing what the Beatles went through, what Michael Jackson went through ... it's crazy," he said of the mayhem that took place.</P><P>Next up, Bieber and his team headed to London where he encountered a major snag: He got caught in an elevator, and his claustrophobia only amplified the situation. "I nearly just died guys!" he later said to his crew while getting into his car to head to a festival show in London.</P><P>Kelly Clarkson visited the pop star and joked about being a 30-year-old stalker hounding him for a picture. Later Bieber is seen greeting Katy Perry, whom he hugged and then joked, "We can just do that forever if you want."</P><P>While there are a lot of fun moments in his life of celebrity, Bieber does open up about sometimes wishing he could have quieter moments to himself. "There's times when I want to go back home and do nothing," he said. "At the end of the day, I feel like I have a responsibility."</P><P>The big moment in the special came when Bieber made his way to Paris. After serenading crowds of girls with a French version of "One Less Lonely Girl," the infamous concussion incident took center stage.</P><P>Leading up to the incident, Bieber was seen joking around with singer John Mayer, and everyone was excited for him to perform at the glass-enclosed building, the tallest in Paris.</P><P>After performing the track "Be Alright" (irony?), Bieber exited the stage and hit a glass wall but decided to continue his performance anyway.</P><P>Later on, Bieber is seen looking a bit hurt when he fainted walking down the stairs after the incident. An ambulance was called and everyone in his camp looked pretty worried about the star. Fans would later learn that he suffered a concussion.</P><P>Part one of the special aired Wednesday night on NBC, one day after Bieber officially dropped his album <i>Believe.</i> Part two will air Thursday night (June 21), when the rest of the concussion drama will play out.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Lights Up New York Fans" id="vid:793032.id:1687833" width="415" height="255"></div><p></p>

'Still remiss if I should go outside, with this clonker,' Gaga writes about the larger bruise on her cheek.

<P>Lady Gaga has proven her mental toughness time and again, but even she had to admit that the walloping she took onstage at a show in New Zealand on Sunday threw her for a loop.</P><P><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Emerging from hours of sleep. The comment was accompanied by a photo of Gaga laying in bed looking disheveled, her hair a mess, with a large bruise on her left cheek and what appeared to be the beginnings of a shiner under her left eye. "Still remiss if I should go outside, with this clonker I may be of questionable styling," she added.</P><P>Earlier on Monday she assured fans that she was on the mend, tweeting, "Thank you so much for all the thoughtful messages. I feel a bit woozy but a little better everyday. Very happy to be in beautiful Australia."</P><P>Videos of the incident posted online show a male backup dancer accidentally hitting Gaga in the head with a metal set piece while trying to move it off the stage. Gaga, who bent down to pick up a prop machine gun during the performance of "Judas," staggered a bit and rubbed her head before briefly walking off the stage. But, a short time later, she was right back at it, performing 16 more songs before calling it a night.</P><P>Later in the gig, she told the audience, "I want to apologize. I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don't you worry, I will finish this show."
