While comic book logic refuses to let major characters die, there's only one satisfying way to end this franchise, the Weekly Rising says.

Batman cannot die. Bruce Wayne laid that in clear language while riding on his jet with Alfred in "Batman Begins." "As a man, I'm flesh and blood. I can be ignored I can be destroyed, but as a symbol — as a symbol — I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting."
That view was never considered a radical change in Christopher Nolan's revisionist take on the Caped Crusader. That's always been Batman's mindset.
Comic book logic, however, refuses to let any major character truly, permanently die, and the light air of previous film versions would never have taken the character that far and risk ending a successful film franchise. But ending a series is precisely what Nolan intends to do with "The Dark Knight Rises."
In the latest issue of Empire, the series' creators (Nolan included) discuss giving their story a definitive ending. And though such a finale is never expressly stated, one cannot help but walk away from the article believing that not only is it likely Bruce Wayne will die or retire at the end of "DKR," but that it's exactly what should happen.
A large portion of the lengthy article deals directly with the idea of Nolan ending his run of Batman films with a period instead of a more traditional and economically friendly ellipsis. This kind of move is unprecedented when dealing with a property as infinitely reusable as Batman. Jonathan, Nolan's brother and co-writer, told Empire that he feels a solid ending helps the functions of a storyteller.
"It's the right way to end it — to blow the whole thing up! It's better than trying to spin the thing out indefinitely and make it into the Bond franchise," Jonathan Nolan said. "I mean, they've successfully pulled it off with Bond, but at certain costs, certainly at the cost of continuity. I think with almost every other franchise it's a mistake to try and keep those plates spinning. You want stakes. You want tectonic plates to shift. And as a writer you wanna feel you've worked on a complete story, with a beginning, a middle and an end."
Jonathan Nolan's reasoning behind his brother's choice to end the story necessitates some significant change in the life of Bruce Wayne, but if that shift isn't drastic enough, "The Dark Knight Rises" will not be considered a finale. The movie itself may have a conclusion, but without real, lasting transformation for the character and the series, Nolan would fail to deliver on the one promise he has made over and over again: an ending.
But does that necessarily mean the death or retirement of Bruce Wayne? For "The Dark Knight Rises" to be a true end as Nolan has indicated, the lasting effect of this film has to render the idea of any further Christian Bale/ Christopher Nolan Batman movies either impossible or meaningless. How do you do that? There are two ways: either Wayne experiences an epiphany, changing or solidifying his world view for good, or he dies/retires while the symbol lives on as foreshadowed in "Batman Begins." Which sounds more appealing to you? To use Nolan's word, which has more "stakes"?
Even if Bruce Wayne's ultimate fate won't be revealed until the film opens on July 20, it's almost guaranteed that his life will be on the throughout the film, simply because of Bane's presence in the story. "Bane is a resourceful, cunning and committed villain who knows exactly what he wants," Jonathan Nolan said when comparing him to the Joker. "He wants Batman dead and Gotham in ruins. That's fitting for a third film."
Perhaps the most telling evidence of Bruce Wayne's demise comes from the much-circulated quote from co-writer David S. Goyer, describing the final sequence of the film and his emotional reaction to seeing it onscreen. "The final scene of 'The Dark Knight Rises' is exactly that scene we talked about then," he said. "It remained completely unchanged. We both knew in our hearts that we were onto something special. I have to tell you, having finally seen everything strung together a little while ago and seeing that scene, I got a complete lump in my throat."
I rest my case.

'We'd rather work with someone we respect than just a big name,' Angello tells MTV News of SHM's two Looking 4 Myself tracks.
By Akshay Bhansali
<P>With the release of Usher's seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself, the veteran R&B star reveals a personal evolution that fittingly corresponds with today's pop-music appetite. In addition to the sumptuous soul one expects from Mr. Raymond, perfectly exhibited on songs like "Lessons for the Lover" and "Dive," it's evident that Ursh has a serious love of dance music. And after his euphoric collaboration on "Without You" with EDM crossover star David Guetta, dance-music fans should be elated to find that in his three-year journey of discovery for <i>Looking,</i> Ursh worked with some of the biggest names in EDM.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Swedish House Mafia Produce 'Numb & Euphoria' For Usher" id="vid:791038" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Before the album's release, fans were treated to the first single with producer Diplo, underscoring his versatility yet again in the soft-synthy "Climax."</P><P>Of course, the revelation that Mr. Raymond would be putting out a double dose of Swedish House Mafia productions, "Numb" and album closer "Euphoria," was big news, too. Alesso appears in the production credits with Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso on "Numb," which has a lighter, simpler beat than one typically expects from the Swedes. This is certainly in contrast to the whopping banger "Euphoria," which won't need too much retooling before being added to a SHM set.</P><P>MTV News caught up with Angello this weekend at Las Vegas dance-music mecca XS Nightclub, where he revealed just how these two gems came to be.</P><P>"We did the [2010 American Music Awards performance] with Usher," Angello said. "And then he came to hang out with us in Ibiza. [After that] we were in Atlanta and we were all working together for five days. And then we brainstormed and wrote the records from start to finish."</P><P>As Swedish House Mafia fans are well aware, the holy trinity of house are extremely selective about whom they work with. But the chance to work with a time-tested R&B legend they respect was an opportunity they relished.</P><P>"He's always been a great artist," Angello continued. "He always knows what he wants. Good collaboration, all in all. For us, we'd rather work with someone that we respect than to just work with a big name. It was the same with Pharrell [Williams, on SHM's "One (Your Name)"] and Tinie Tempah [on "Miami 2 Ibiza"]."</P><P>While Angello reminded us that "Numb" and "Euphoria" are Usher records, not Swedish House Mafia joints, they ought to hold you SHM fans over until Ax, Seb and Steve deliver their upcoming Australia-inspired "Emotional" single, which is almost complete.</p>

<P>Beyoncé isn't letting motherhood slow her down. On Monday night, Queen B hit the red carpet at the splashy Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in a dress that left very little to the imagination.</P><P>Her sheer, skintight Givenchy haute couture gown was highlighted with black sequins and beading, as well as purple and black feathers on the floor-length hemline. The dress showed off her fit, curvaceous post-baby body. B was one of many fashionistas who dazzled at the annual fete.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce, Nina Dobrev, Rihanna And More Shine At Met Fashion Gala" id="vid:767073" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Other fashionable standouts included Rihanna, who hit the event in a black, long-sleeved column gown with lizard-like printing over the fabric. And "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev glittered in a black one-shoulder Donna Karan gown that hugged her body.</P><P>Beyoncé's red-carpet-ready look arrived just as she announced that she's added another date to her set of comeback shows in Atlantic City later this month. Perez Hilton reports that January 24 episode includes a 'Beat It' and 'Billie Jean' mash-up.

<P>"Glee" has already dedicated entire episodes to Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, and come 2012, it's the King of Pop's turn.</P><P>A rumored set list for the January 24 "Glee" Michael Jackson tribute episode has hit the Web, and it features some of the late singer's greatest hits. Perez Hilton reports that 14 tracks have made the final cut, although the list has yet to be confirmed by anyone connected with the show.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="'Glee' Cast Members Talk Michael Jackson Episode" id="vid:549513.id:1645343" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>The set list (along with who will perform the track) reportedly includes "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " (Blaine), "Bad" (the New Directions and the Warblers), "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (Finn and Rachel), "Smooth Criminal" (Santana and Sebastian), "Never Can Say Goodbye" (Quinn), "In the Closet" (Brittany and Santana), "We Are the World" (the New Directions and the Warblers), "Black and White" (Puck), "Ghost"/"Monster" (New Directions), "Beat It"/"Billie Jean" (Warblers), "The Way You Make Me Feel" (Kurt) and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" (Artie).</P><P>This is hardly the first time the show has paid homage to Jackson. Back in 2010, the New Directions performed his track "Thriller," complete with zombie garb, during an episode that aired after the Super Bowl. The show has also previously covered "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and "Man in the Mirror."</P><P>Back in 2010, the cast of the hit Fox show had only imagined what it would be like to have an entire episode dedicated to Jackson. "I would love to do a Michael Jackson episode," Amber Riley told MTV News at the time. "You know, it's so many [songs that I love], but my favorite song by him is 'Human Nature.' I love that song."</P><P>While Riley seemed psyched about the opportunity, castmate Jenna Ushkowitz found the possibility a little more daunting. "That's a scary, scary episode to do," she said. "[But] that would be absolutely amazing."</P><P><i>Are you happy with the rumored set list? What's missing? Share your thoughts in the comments below!</i></p>
