Michael Jackson To Appear On Pepsi Cans

More than one billion cans will be imprinted with the late pop icon's image.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>More than three years after Michael Jackson's death&#8232;, the pop icon will be at the beach, the pool, the 7-Eleven and everywhere in between this summer thanks to a new deal with PepsiCo.</P><P>According to The Wall Street Journal the #2 soda company is going back to the future with a massive campaign that will have Jackson's image imprinted on more than one billion cans of soda as part of its new global "Live For Now" marketing push.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Remembering Michael Jackson - One Year Later" id="id:1642144" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Nearly 30 years after Jackson first agreed to be the voice of the brand, an agreement has been reached with Jackson's estate, though reps for both sides declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal. When Jackson signed on to shill Pepsi in 1984 he was paid a then-record $5 million. A representative for the estate said the PepsiCo campaign is the first branding deal executed since Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.</P><P>While Jackson was handsomely paid in the 1984 deal, it was during the filming of an ad for that sponsorship that his life was forever altered. While shooting a commercial for Pepsi, a pyro effect went wrong and Jackson's hair caught fire, seriously burning his face and scalp and requiring multiple skin grafts and resulting in intense pain. It has been speculated that Jackson's addiction to pain medications may have begun after the mishap.</P><P>The new campaign is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Jackson's <I>Bad</I> album. PepsiCo will start distributing the special-edition cans in China this weekend and they will arrive in the U.S. later this month. The 16-ounce, collector's-edition can in the U.S. will feature a special download code that will link to downloads of <I>Bad</I> remixes. Though TV ads will debut in China later this month, it has not been determined yet if similar spots will air in the U.S.</P><P></p>

Lady Gaga's New Album Will Be 'Insane'

'Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her,' Gaga's co-manager says of the follow-up to Born This Way.
By James Montgomery

<P>If there's one positive that Lady Gaga fans can take from her decision to cancel a June 3 concert in Indonesia, perhaps it's this: at least she'll have more time to work on her album.</P><P>Yes, though she's currently in the midst of a two-year world tour, Gaga is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way</i> and, according to her co-manager, she's going to push the boundaries even further this time around (which is sure to please those Indonesian Islamic groups).</P><P>"There's a lot of work to come, [I'm] very excited about it," Vincent Herbert revealed in a new interview with website That Grape Juice. "[It's] just [an] insane, great record. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her. We're doing it on the road right now, so it's a little hard, but it's going to be great."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Has The Title And Concept For Her Next Album" id="vid:717202" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Herbert wouldn't reveal specifics &#8212; tentative release date, title, who she's been working with, etc. &#8212; about the new album, but the news that she's recording on the road is actually in keeping with the way she began work on <I>Born This Way,</i> when standout tracks like "Marry The Night" took shape with producer Fernando Garibay during her long-running Monster Ball Tour.</P><P>"I just kind of got on the American leg of the tour ... and she goes, 'I want to write another song that can define where I'm at with this album and my life,' " Garibay told MTV News last year. "I go back to the studio bus; I'm just working on parts ... and then, two hours later, she comes offstage and she goes, 'Do you have something to play me?' And I go, 'I do, actually.'</P><P>"So I played her the instrumental for 'Marry the Night,' and she goes, 'Open up a mic,' " Garibay continued. "She starts laying down the whole song, like, off the cuff ... right off the stage, using the energy of that crowd and going into the studio, it was amazing. I can't compare it to anything."</P><P><i>What do you hope the </i>Born This Way<i> follow-up will sound like? Tell us in the comments section!</i></P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga's Musical Roots" id="vid:657640" width="415" height="255"></div><p></p>

Lady Gaga To Reveal Album Title In September

'I've played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September!' Gaga tweets.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Wondering what Lady Gaga plans to call her next album? Well, you're going to have to wait through the summer to find out. The singer, currently on her controversial Born This Way Tour, tweeted that she will make the announcement this fall. "Exciting news little monsters! I've played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September! X," she wrote.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Has The Title And Concept For Her Next Album" id="vid:717202" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Gaga has, in fact, been playing the record for her bosses and inner circle. She also revealed on Twitter that she spun the new music, her follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way,</i> for her longtime pal Lady Starlight. And her co-manager Vincent Herbert had some of his own teases for Little Monsters in an interview he gave late last month.</P><P>"[It's] just [an] insane, great record. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her," he said. "We're doing it on the road right now, so it's a little hard, but it's going to be great."</P><P>Though it's unclear how far along in the recording process she is for the release, in an interview with MTV News in December, she already had the highly anticipated album title in mind. "I've started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place," she said. "I'm excited to put it out, but it's not done yet. So I'll put it out when it's done."</P><P>Her producer, Fernando Garibay, confirmed in a separate interview last year that Mother Monster would be working on the album while on tour. "I get a little bit of anxiety thinking about that right now. I wanna just always try to outdo ourselves, our songs. They're already incredible songs. But I feel like she's so young," he said, adding that at the time, the record was in its early stages and that "there's a lot of room to grow."</P><P>"The last record we made in bus stops and hotel rooms," he said. "Wherever she's at, we'll make it."</p>

Tony Parker Files $20 Million Suit Over Drake/Chris Brown Club Brawl

Suit against W.i.P. club was filed on Monday in connection with injuries NBA star suffered in the melee.

One of the most high-profile victims to emerge from the shattered glass wreckage of the nightclub brawl
between members of Chris Brown and Drake's crews at New York nightclub W.i.P. has filed a multimillion-dollar suit against the SoHo night spot.

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, claims in a $20 million lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court earlier this week that the club's owners are responsible for the "corneal laceration of the left eye and other injuries," according to the New York Post.

A spokesperson for the club told MTV News on Friday (June 22) that they were unable to comment on the suit because they have not yet been served with any papers. In addition, the club, whose owner, Jonathan Cantor, was arrested on unrelated charges
tied to two outstanding warrants, continues to be closed on a temporary basis.

Parker's suit claims that W.i.P.'s owners should have known better than to let the two romantic rivals for Rihanna's affection into the club at the same time. Lawyer David Jaroslawicz added that the extent of Parker's injuries are not yet known, but that eye injuries "certainly don't improve your outside shot." The NBA star and one of the key members of the championship team is slated to play for his native France in this summer's Olympics.

Neither musician is named in the lawsuit, but it does mention them as being the catalyst for the fight. "The defendants were reckless, careless and negligent in permitting Drake's entourage and Brown's entourage to be in the club at the same time despite known tension between the two," the suit reads. "She's been known, like Helen of Troy, to cause trouble," Jaroslawicz said of Rihanna.

According to the suit, Parker wasn't sitting with either party, but has said he was with "my friend Chris Brown" when the troubles started and claimed that he and his friends took some blows before "they started throwing bottles everywhere."

The baller said he's been sidelined for a week as he recuperates from the injury with the help of a "therapeutic" contact lens. While he said his eye felt better at first, it began to hurt when he landed in France to practice with his team for the games, forcing him to visit the ER for more treatment. "I'll be missing the start of the French team because I can't do anything for a week except keep the lens in and then take drops," he told the paper.

Police have not made any arrests over the incident, but they have subpoenaed the security tapes from the club and are reviewing them.
