Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj are confirmed to perform at the 2012 BET Awards on July 1.
By Rob Markman

Expect lots of drama, plenty of laughs and possibly even a few superheroes in the building when Samuel L. Jackson hosts the 2012 BET Awards on July 1, live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. On Tuesday (May 22), BET announced the nominees for their 2012 awards show and even confirmed performances by Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj (though there was no official word on whether the Hulk will attend).

BET president Stephen Hill held a press conference in New York City on Tuesday, and with the help of Big Sean, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Diggy, Mindless Behavior and Melanie Fiona, he spilled the beans about the big show. Samuel L. wasn't in attendance, but "The Avengers" star sent a pre-taped message promising that the show will be "too big to miss."

Kanye West leads the nominations with seven, including two Video of the Year nods for the Throne's "N---as in Paris" and "Otis." Beyoncé notched six nominations, while hubby Jay-Z earned himself five noms. Big Sean was particularly excited about his three nominations, including his look in the Best Male Hip Hop Artist category, where he will square off against Drake, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy.

"It's perfect. My grandma gonna be watchin', my mom, my family, the whole city," Sean told MTV News shortly after the press conference. "It's just tight that I can represent those people, everybody who had that dream, everybody who used to ride to school [listening to] their idols, now I'm with them. It's just tight that I can show people that it's possible."

Sean broke through last year when he dropped his debut LP Finally Famous. Next, the "Marvin & Chardonnay" MC will appear on G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Summer compilation and then follow up with his sophomore album.

Sean isn't the only big dog being honored at the awards show. Chris Brown, Usher and Bruno Mars are among the nominees in the Best Male R&B category, while Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna will duke it out in the Best Female category. The Throne, Diddy-Dirty Money, Maybach Music Group and Eminem's Bad Meets Evil will compete for Best Group, and Nicki Minaj looks to be the favorite for Best Female Hip Hop.

For the full list of categories and nominees, check BET.com.

MTV News gets a behind-the-scenes look at the Cirque Du Soleil tribute to the King of Pop.
By Uptin Saiidi

NEWARK — Since its opening, Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour by Cirque Du Soleil has honored the King of Pop through music, dance and acrobatics 117 times. Night after night, artists celebrate the life of the late Michael Jackson, but how do they take his iconic legacy and put it into a production? When the tour came to New York City this week, MTV News went behind the scenes to talk with the creative forces and performers to find out.

The artists (all 65 of them) had limited time to train and learn choreography -- an especially difficult feat when it's honoring MJ's signature moves. It was a kind of pressure that creative director Tara Young certainly learned to channel into a positive force.

"I think it is a pressure for sure; something I share with the whole building here is that we have nothing to prove, only to share," Young told MTV News. "We have an opportunity to share what Michael would have wanted to share and the pressure is only there to achieve excellence."

For Felix Cane, a two-time world champion pole dancer who does a captivating performance to "Danger," it was all about using that pressure to help the audience to remember the pop icon. "You are sharing this passion with them, and this love of MJ. There's times in the show when some people and I, myself, might have shed a few tears."

That pressure never felt as great as when the Jackson family sat in the front row at a show in Montreal, an experience Young described as "inspiring." When asked what MJ would think if he were sitting there with them, Young smiled, "He would feel such a sense of pride of what he has given us to work with. It evokes emotions in people that they didn't even know were going to come out."

I think everyone feels inspired, which evokes a certain feeling of change," Young added. "You feel a sadness too because he is not with us anymore, and that is an emotion that is wonderful too actually ... just to honor him."

The tour will continue in North America through the summer, before heading to Europe this fall.

Have you seen Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour? What did you think? Leave your comment below!

'Every one of you is my biggest fan,' he told concertgoers when he took the stage Monday night in Mexico.

Justin Bieber's free concert in Mexico City on Monday night was welcomed by hundreds of thousands of screaming fans who turned up to be blown away by the teen star.

According to Bieber's camp, there were upwards of 300,000 fans who showed up to see the Believe singer perform.

"The pics of the crowds look CRAZY here in MEXICO CITY!! IM HYPED!! This is going to be fun! MEXICO I LOVE YOU! Te AMO MUCHO!!" Bieber tweeted, later adding, "everything about tonight was special. it is everything we stand for. alot of emotions but it was worth it. 300,000 people. Te Amo MEXICO. NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE AWAY YOUR DREAMS! BELIEVE. DREAM BIG!"

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that the show presented an "iconic moment." According to The Associated Press, the 18-year-old played several tracks including "Baby," "One Less Lonely Girl" (during which he brought a fan onstage) and "Somebody to Love." There were approximately 5,000 police officers on hand to make sure the crowds remained as in control as possible.

"Mexico City, there is a lot of people today!" Bieber reportedly yelled to the crowd at the Zócalo in between songs. "Every one of you is my biggest fan."

While his fans displayed their devotion for the singer by braving the crowd to see him perform, in a press conference earlier that day, Bieber admitted there's only one guy he would camp out to see perform. "There is no one I admire so much to do something crazy, but if Michael Jackson were here," he said, "I would do it for him. So, I do understand the emotion that the girls feel, and that makes me feel very honored."

Before taking the stage, Bieber opened up about the performance in a video he shot backstage. "I can't say how thankful I am ... This show here in Mexico City, it's going to be incredible. I just wanted to make this video and tell you guys you inspire me just as much as I inspire you. God has really blessed me," he says amid the shouts of his fans in the background. He added, "I hope to have this journey for a long time."

Bieber has been traveling the globe and playing free shows, including headline-making stops in Oslo, Norway, and Paris. He will officially hit the road on his already sold-out Believe Tour later this year.

'I've been working hard and I'm confident in the album,' the singer tells Matt Lauer of Believe, which drops Tuesday.
By Jocelyn Vena
Some Fridays in June are simply dubbed "summer Fridays," but this one in particular was a very special "Justin Bieber summer Friday." Bieber kicked off his electrifying performance on the "Today" show with "Boyfriend," the funky lead single off his new album, Believe.
From there he popped, locked and sang his way through his catalogue of tracks, some from his June 19 album release and some from his past albums. He brought the energy for his My World track "Baby" (even rapping his way through Ludacris' part), but he brought out Big Sean to rap alongside him on "As Long as You Love Me." He had recently teased on Twitter that he had plans to bring out a special guest.
"Make some noise for the legendary, one-and-only Justin Bieber," Sean told the audience after they wrapped up. As for Bieber, well, he only had eyes for his fans. "I want to say thank you guys so much for waiting. I really appreciate it," he told the crowd.
Justin's fans camp out in the rain for three days!
Bieber also performed "All Around the World," but in between songs, he met fans and chatted with them about their signs. He even picked a fan whose sign he liked best and gave her tickets to his upcoming tour.
"I'm really excited to be able to travel the world again and see all my fans. ... Everyone, they got to believe," he said of the trek.
Before he took the stage at Rockefeller Plaza, Bieber sat down with Matt Lauer and opened up about making a mature album.
"At the end of the day, it is [a lot of pressure]. I'm 18 and I have a lot of insecurities, and at the end of the day, me being in my position, it doesn't, like, get rid of those insecurities," he said.
"And so coming out with this album, I know I've been working hard on it and I know I've been doing well, so I'm confident in the album. But, you know, it's coming out in two days.
"But I think it's about proving people wrong," he added. "And going out and making good music and going out there and performing better than everyone else, and that's what you have to do to cross over.
Otherwise I'm going to be another teen heartthrob. I want to be remembered."
Recently, his manager, Scooter Braun, said that despite being legal, Bieber will still get a lot of guidance. That doesn't seem to be something that the singer minds. "I think that I'm at a place. I'm 18. I'm still growing up. I'm still learning about different things: girls, my music," he said. "So I'm not all the way there, but I'm at a stage where I'm growing and my fans are growing with me and I want to make music that reflects that."
