'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Fever Hits 'Rock Of Ages' Ladies

'I just think more men should be reading it,' Julianne Hough tells MTV News.

It seems like the "Rock of Ages" stars are living up to the phrase "sex, drugs and rock and roll." Well, not the drugs part. But the stars are certainly onboard for a little S&M with "Fifty Shades of Grey."

When MTV News caught up with Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, Diego Boneta and director Adam Shankman for Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week, where they brought us an exclusive look at their new film, we put them through a rapid-fire round of questioning. When asked to choose between "Fifty Shades" and "Hunger Games," Hough and Akerman revealed their pick in unison saying, "Fifty Shades of Grey!" before promptly giving each other a high-five.

"I just think more men should be reading it," Hough said. "I'm just saying."

Akerman agreed, letting us know why: "To know what to do."

The erotic novel follows the sadomasochistic relationship between billionaire tycoon Christian Grey and recent college graduate Anastasia Steele. It begins as a purely physical attraction, and the book has more than its fair share of steamy scenes. But as the couple become engrossed in each other, their sexual affair blossoms into a romance.

Boneta and Shankman, on the other hand, showed a gender divide when they both said their preference is Suzanne Collins' dystopian thriller. Although, the director did reveal that he's one to judge a book by its cover.

"On the third book ['Fifty Shades Freed,' I] saw on the cover some handcuffs," he said, "so I might go with the third in the series."

Our other big question of the night was what movie or album the stars want a sneak peek of that doesn't currently exist.

"Oh, 'Dark Knight [Rises],' " Shankman immediately said throwing his hands up. "I mean, I saw 10 minutes of it. I'm just saying."

Boneta approved the director's movie pick and named his most anticipated album as U2's next endeavor.

"I'll go with 'Dark Knight' too," Akerman said of her movie choice. "This is great."

"Yeah, we're all 'Dark Knight'!" Julianne agreed.

There you have it, the hottest picks of the summer: "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Fifty Shades of Grey." Do you think Christian Bale could play Christian Grey?

Check out everything we've got on "Rock of Ages."

Jessica Simpson And Beyonce: From One Mommy Mogul To Another

Maxwell's mom can learn a lot from another superstar mama, Queen B.
By John Mitchell

<P>Jessica Simpson is basking in the glow of new motherhood after giving birth to her daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, on Tuesday, but if we know anything about celebrity moms, she'll be back to work in no time flat.</P><P>While she hasn't released an album of new material since 2008's country crossover record <i>Do You Know,</i> Simpson remains a true mogul. Her fashion line, the Jessica Simpson Collection, is the most successful ever for a celebrity. What began as a vanity line of bags and shoes has transformed into a billion-dollar brand that now also includes clothing, jewelry, fragrances and sunglasses.</P><P><CENTER></CENTER></P><P>The dueling pulls of motherhood and celebrity create a tough balancing act for a new mom, but being a mogul already is evidence enough that Simpson can wear a lot of hats. Just look at Beyoncé, another multi-hyphenate superstar with a newborn who is already plotting her return to form.</P><P>Indeed, Queen B is a perfect example of exactly how to balance early motherhood with the rigors of being a mogul. She's done things her way and is readying her musical comeback with several planned dates in Atlantic City, currently appears on the cover ofPeople's Most Beautiful issue (a covert and classy post-baby body reveal, in true Beyonc&#233; style) and has even suggested she may at some point create a line of maternity clothes for her House of Dereon fashion line, telling Harper's Bazaar late last year, "I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant."</P><P>Here are the three ways Jessica should look to Beyonce for post-baby mommy mogul inspiration:</P><P><big><b>Bouncing Back Professionally</b></big><br> Simpson's focus has switched from music to television in recent years, though she has never ruled out returning to the studio. Motherhood is a subject that has proven to be ace songwriting material for several pop divas, most notably Madonna. Madonna's 1998 album <i>Ray of Light</i> was inspired by the changes having a child had on her life, from her pursuit of spirituality post-baby to the change in her priorities once Lourdes entered the picture. The album went on to become one of her best-selling and most acclaimed, scoring five Grammy nominations, including Album and Record of the Year, and winning three awards. Its success reinvigorated the star, who returned to touring a few years later with a bang and has been on the road multiple times since, setting records along the way.</P><P>Beyonc&#233; is reportedly already working on not one, but two records, and it goes without saying that baby Blue Ivy and the experience of motherhood will be a chief topic of her songwriting. She's also set to make her return to the stage for three concerts at the re-launch of Atlantic City's Revel Entertainment Center over Memorial Day weekend.</P><P>Simpson would be smart to put all the emotions she's feeling now to good use and start penning tracks for her return to music. The very emotions she's feeling now are the things that make for the best songs, something Beyonc&#233; is seemingly well-aware of.</P><P><big><b>Working on Your Fitness</b></big><br> Jessica seems intent to make her post-baby weight loss a public affair (Get it? That song is her most underrated jam!) with a reported multimillion-dollar endorsement deal with Weight Watchers, clearly taking a cue from B by keeping it healthy.</P><P>Unlike so many other celebrities, who rush hard in ways that cannot be good for them to get their figures ready for "How I Got My Body Back" tabloid photo shoots as if it were some sort of competition, Beyonc&#233; didn't appear to feel any sort of rush to get her pre-baby figure back. According to her People interview, she has relied on a healthy, protein-heavy diet and three 90-minute workout sessions per week, mixing things up by combining running, dancing and exercise ball crunches. And the results speak for themselves: Four months later she looks fantastic, if not yet back to her perfect pre-baby figure. (Which is just fine; regardless of what the tabloids tell you, it is unnatural for the mother of a newborn to look as if she never had a baby in the first place just a few months after giving birth.)</P><P>"I feel my body bouncing back," B told <i>People.</i> "Whatever was tight and muscular, like my legs, I'm seeing it come back. You just have to work at it."</P><P>And work at it is exactly what Jessica will do &#8212; just in a more public setting than B. In the scheme of diets, Weight Watchers is among the healthiest and most effective. The program helps participants lose weight by forming helpful habits, eating smarter, getting more exercise and providing support, and has proven successful for such celebs as Jennifer Hudson.</P><P>Having negotiated her contract with the company in December, she may not be taking her cues from Beyonc&#233; here, but they clearly share the same mind-set when it comes to post-baby weight loss. Slow, steady, healthy and long-term is the goal.</P><P><big><b>Creating Products</b></big><br> While Beyonc&#233; doesn't have a line of baby clothes just yet, she has mentioned being interested in creating a maternity line for her House of Dereon label. Jessica may have a leg up on Beyonc&#233; in this department, given the breadth of products that have popped up under her Jessica Simpson Collection label.</P><P>As both moms search for ways into the elusive baby market, Christopher Gavigan, who works with Jessica Alba on her Honest brand, told MTV News that he urges celebrity moms like B and Jessica to stick to what they love when it comes to branding.</P><P>"Find what you're passionate about and go do that," he advised. "You articulate that in a brand or in a way you feel from a business perspective that you feel you get your focus articulated in some meaningful or special way. A lot of it is partnerships and leveraging the greatest assets of each other."</P><P><i>What else can Jessica learn from Beyonc&#233; &#8212; or vice versa? Let us know in the comments below!</i></P><P></p>

MTV Movie Awards Backstage Secrets Revealed

Wahlberg heckles, Fassbender hugs it out and Russell Brand gets very close to our correspondent.
By Josh Horowitz

Photo: MTV News

Well, that was a hell of a Movie Awards, wasn't it? Johnny Depp playing with the Black Keys?!? That moment when Christian Bale got choked up? Russell Brand's scathing monologue? And then that other stuff ... with that thing that happened ... yeah, I haven't seen one minute of the show yet. Literally. I'm totally serious.

Such was my odd position and perspective on the MTV Movie Awards. For the second year in a row, I was backstage for the entirety of the show, roaming what we call "the patio," where the pretty people laugh, drink, smoke and possibly hook up so that their children — even prettier people — can show up at awards shows 20 years hence.

While I'm bummed I missed another memorable show (home recording device, don't fail me now!), I wouldn't trade my gig for a front-row seat to the big show, not with the stuff I got to see. So here you go, the backstage stuff nobody saw.

Live Television Is Stressful ... but Awesome
Hopefully you guys caught our red-carpet pre-show. And hopefully if you did, it looked like a relatively smooth if loose affair. Well, let me pull the curtain back just a bit. Live red-carpet shows are insane. Don't get me wrong: We had the greatest team in the business producing our show, but we didn't have a psychic who could predict that the guest we were supposed to open the show with would be MIA. Or that certain interviews would go on twice as long as scheduled. Or ... well, a lot of things. Suffice to say when I took the "winner's walk" off the main stage during one of my live bits, I wasn't sure if I would find anyone waiting to interview let alone Julianne Hough, much less Julianne and her little nephew Aidan. That smile I had when I saw her? That, my friends, was relief.

Wahlberg Heckles Too
By now you've no doubt heard (or saw) that there was a heckler who directed some choice words towards the lovely Mila Kunis at the beginning of the show. And from what I gather, her "Ted" co-star Mark Wahlberg came to her defense (remember, I still haven't seen the show). Well, just minutes before, just as I was seconds from going live on the patio with Emma Watson, I heard my name being screamed from afar. I looked up and there he was, Marky Mark, giving me crap while I tried to look like I was composed. Bastard.

Size Matters
I don't know why this surprises me but Michael Fassbender is having a ball. If you were one of the most acclaimed actors of your generation and the size of your penis was marveled at by the world, I guess you'd be in a good mood too. Backstage the big man (talking about his acting ability here, of course) was holding court. Every time I turned around, he was hugging another actor (Charlize Theron, Russell Brand, Rob Riggle?!?), looking like he was having the time of his life.

Russell Brand and I Are Having a Baby
My relationship with Russell Brand is complicated. He likes to touch me. Everywhere. And often. I knew as soon as Russell signed on to host the Movie Awards that I'd be touched inappropriately at some point. He saved it all for the end. As he walked off the stage at the conclusion of the show, kissing and high-fiving people left and right, Russell embraced me with all of his might and then — I will say this in the hopes that it relieves me of years of therapy — he repeatedly pushed his pelvis into mine in a rhythmic motion one usually reserves for a significant other. Billy Crystal didn't do that to Ryan Seacrest at the Oscars. He didn't, right?

Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what went down at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards!

Johnny Depp's Movie Awards Jam Session And His Rock And Roll Life

In honor of Depp's performance with the Black Keys, we take a look back at his lifelong love affair with rock.
By James Montgomery

As if his myriad of tattoos or swaggering, Keith Richards-indebted performances as Captain Jack Sparrow weren't proof enough, Johnny Depp's MTV Movie Awards jam session with the Black Keys definitely served notice that the Hollywood icon knows a thing or two about rock.

Of course, that Sunday-night performance — in lieu of a traditional acceptance speech for his MTV Generation Award, Depp opted instead to tear through a pair of tunes with the Keys — was just his latest rock and roll moment. Long before he was a big-screen star, music was Depp's first passion ... not to mention the reason he moved to Los Angeles in the first place.

During a 2002 appearance on "Inside the Actors Studio," Depp told host James Lipton that he received his first guitar when he was 12 years old and stole a Mel Bay chord book from a department store to learn how to play it. And during his hectic teenage years, the instrument took on near mythic proportions to him.

"At that age ... things are going haywire inside, so the guitar sort of saved me," he said. "You begin to go through puberty and I was so into my guitar, into playing, I didn't notice puberty."

He'd start playing backyard parties and snuck into nightclubs to play with his band, the Kids. Eventually Depp would drop out of high school to follow his dreams of being a professional musician and head to Los Angeles in search of a record deal, but when it didn't pan out — he was making ends meet selling pens over the telephone — the Kids broke up, and Depp began his acting career with a role in Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (though the band would reunite in 2008 at a Florida benefit show for an area manager and promoter).

But his love affair with music never really went away. He'd appear in iconic videos for Tom Petty and the Lemonheads, and formed the short-lived alt-rock band P along with Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes, who would release an eponymous album in 1995 that featured guest appearances from the likes of Flea and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones (and exactly one ABBA cover). He was also part owner of the notorious Sunset Strip club the Viper Room, and has performed on albums by Oasis — he's credited with slide guitar on the Be Here Now track "Fade In-Out" — and Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan's first solo album.

In recent years, he's also recorded with Marilyn Manson (he plays guitar and drums on a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" that appears as a bonus track on Manson's Born Villain album) and performed alongside him at the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Awards, and has shared the stage with legends like ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Alice Cooper. And, in a bit of destiny, he's also jammed out with Keith Richards at an afterparty for Depp's 2011 film "The Rum Diary." So, if he looked like a natural up on the Movie Awards stage Sunday night, well, you can certainly understand why ... he's had a lifetime of practice.

Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what went down at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards!

'Snow White' Sweeps Box Office With $56.3 Million Debut

Fairytale adaptation sees fourth-largest opening of 2012, knocking 'Men in Black 3' out of its first-place spot.

Kristen Stewart as "Snow White"
Photo: Universal

Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart had plenty of reasons to celebrate at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night (June 3).

Not only did Stewart take home her fourth consecutive Best Kiss award for her "Twilight" lip-lock with Robert Pattinson, but the trio's brand new movie, "Snow White and the Huntsman," topped the box office with a strong $56.3 million domestic opening, marking the year's fourth-largest behind only "The Avengers," "The Hunger Games" and "The Lorax."

The success bodes well for Stewart's post-"Twilight" future as well as Hemsworth's prospects outside of the Marvel Universe.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" had no problem overtaking the other Snow White-related movie released this year, "Mirror, Mirror," which took in $62.5 million during its entire theatrical run. Charlize Theron is also in "Prometheus," which opened overseas (ahead of the U.S.) to $35 million.

"Piranha 3DD" opened at just 86 locations, taking in $179,000. (By comparison, "Snow White and the Huntsman" opened at 3,773 locations.) The schlocky sequel was simultaneously released on video on demand services like iTunes. Low-budget horror films often depend on post-theatrical sales to turn a profit.

Last weekend's #1 movie, "Men in Black 3," dropped 46 percent with $29.3 million in its second weekend of release, for a $112.3 million domestic total.

"Marvel's The Avengers" was #3 at the box-office with a still strong $20.3 million — the biggest fifth weekend for any movie ever other aside from "Avatar," "Titanic" and "The Sixth Sense." Over the weekend, "The Avengers" became #3 on the all-time domestic list.

"Battleship" was #4 with $4.8 million for a $55.1 million total. "The Dictator" rounded out the top five with $4.7 million for a $50.8 million total.

This weekend will see the domestic release of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" and "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted."

The-Dream Defends Gwyneth Paltrow Over 'N---as In Paris' Flap

'I typed 'N---as in Paris for real' from Gwen's phone, my bad,' singer/producer tweets.
By Gil Kaufman

Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow has a long-established reputation as a woman who has it all together. From her flawless beauty to her lean-and-mean diet, impeccable acting chops and limelight-avoiding marriage to Coldplay's Chris Martin, Paltrow has rarely been the type to make embarrassing public gaffes.

But when she attended the much-hyped show by the Throne in Paris over the weekend featuring her pal Jay-Z, a surprising tweet from backstage sent the Internet into overdrive with accusations that the actress had crossed a racial divide.

You see, because she's besties with Jay and Beyoncé, Paltrow has the kind of pull that allowed her to watch alongside B from the stage while Jay and Kanye West were performing hit single "N---as In Paris."

Singer/songwriter The-Dream apparently snapped and tweeted a picture of Gwyn grooving onstage, with a caption that read, "Ni**as in Paris for real @mrteriusnash (the dream) tyty, beehigh."

That comment, sent from Paltrow's account, set off a firestorm on Twitter, where fans and bloggers ripped the actress for seemingly using the n-word. The blog Bossip.com wondered if, "Gwyneth might be getting a little too comfortable around her black friends."

Paltrow hit Twitter on Sunday with a response that read, "Hold up, It's the title of the song!" That defense elicited responses ranging from, "People are such babies. It's a freaking song title," to one that read, "It's not the title of the song when you use it to refer to people you know in real life. Don't play dumb."

The-Dream, however, stepped in to defend his pal, explaining, "Fyi Sorry for the Confu I typed Ni**as in Paris for real from Gwens phone. My bad I was Fkd up please excuse it! We were lit!"

He then went on to post a series of peeved tweets in reaction to fans calling him out for his defense of Paltrow. "N---a doesn't have any power over me which is why this will be the last thing I say about it," he wrote. "A word means something when u react to it! ... Context is everything. Meaning it in the context as a Song which is how we Sold it to the world!!!!!! It is what it is ... And actually N---az was in Paris! LOL. Stop wasting God's time and do something with your life. Love not war."

Later, He once again took blame for posting the caption and promised his followers that, "Trust me. If I felt a mfkr was trying me on that tip that was that close to me I would've been arrested. Be nice." The arguments kept coming and finally this week, The-Dream summed up his feelings on the top by writing, "WE GIVE THE WORD TO MUCH POWER!"

What do you think of the Gwyneth/"Paris" flap? Tell us in the comments.
