Justin Bieber Helps Usher 'Relive' Teen Years

'The first reaction is like no other,' Usher says on 'MTV First' about witnessing Bieber's ascent to fame.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Back in 1994, a teenaged Usher dropped his self-titled debut album and skyrocketed to fame. Nearly 20 years later, Usher is still on top, having lost little career momentum. While he's maintained his own career over the years, he also helped launch Justin Bieber to mega-fame as well.

As Bieber continues to grow as an artist, Usher explained that the 18-year-old has built up the kinds of friendships and relationships that he would have wanted as a kid star. "Cool part about it is, he's really able to live a dream that I think most teenagers would want to. To be able to have friends like Mayweather. They are actual friends, hang out, talk," Usher told MTV News during "MTV First" about Bieber's friendship with boxer Floyd Mayweather, who he recently hung out with in Las Vegas. "It's really cool to be able to have friends all around the world and people that can relate to your reality.

"I don't think Michael [Jackson] had people like that," he continued. "I didn't have a ton of people like that. I had Puff. I had JD [producer Jermaine Dupri] ... but to be able to have friends all around the world that keep you, it's cool."

Their friendship was on full display recently when Usher performed in "Fuerza Bruta" back in April in New York City. Bieber dropped by to catch him getting his theater kid on, and midway through the show, the twosome battled it out on the dance floor.

"I was like, 'Come on, I got you. Just chill out.' Set it up," he recalled about tricking the sleepy globe-trotting star to hang with him at the show. "[We] brought him to the middle of the dance floor, and we got it in. But we always show support for each other like that. We was housing a little bit."

The guys will soon go head to head on the Billboard charts: Usher is set to drop his album, Looking 4 Myself, on June 12, and one week later, Bieber will release Believe. While it'll be interesting to see those two fight it out on the charts, what's more interesting for Usher is watching Bieber go through the same stuff he went through as a teen heartthrob.

"I relive every bit of it, from the screaming fans and the first reactions, shutting down the malls. The first reaction is like no other. To be able to be there, to be there with him and go through those emotions and see that shock for the first time [is exciting]," he said.

MTV Movie Awards Celebrate Dirtbags In New Category

Jon Hamm, Jennifer Aniston among the deliciously despicable characters up for Best On-Screen Dirtbag award.

While the MTV Movie Awards are all about celebrating the best from the past year in film, they're also about shining a light on the very worst. This year, we're introducing a brand-new category for all the deliciously despicable characters: Best On-Screen Dirtbag.

We've broken down all the nominees in the category below, but it's up to you to vote one member of this detestable quintet to the podium to collect his or her Golden Popcorn. We will all find out who the worst of the worst is this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET live on MTV.

Bryce Dallas Howard - "" If an on-screen dirtbag does his or her job properly, naturally the audience will beg for some comeuppance. Without a doubt, none of this year's love-to-hate-'em nominees got it worse than Bryce Dallas Howard's horribly racist Miss Hilly. Apparently, revenge is a dish best served in the form of a chocolate pie made out of human feces.

Colin Farrell - "Horrible Bosses" Even if it weren't for the cocaine addiction and his propensity for firing those that "creep him out," Colin Farrell's character in last summer's hit comedy "Horrible Bosses" may have ended up on the short list for On-Screen Dirtbag for that comb-over alone. Sometimes a poor choice of hairstyle can be just as bad as a person's behavior.

Jennifer Aniston - "Horrible Bosses" There's nothing wrong with a small workplace crush as long as human resources has been notified, you keep your conversations work-appropriate, and you don't spray your co-worker's pants with water in order to see the outline of his junk. Jennifer Aniston's character in "Horrible Bosses" did not heed any of these rules as she aggressively tried to seduce her dental hygienist, played by Charlie Day.

Jon Hamm - "Bridesmaids" Sure, he might seem like a great guy. He's rich, and hell, he looks like Jon Hamm, but Ted is not a man you want to be around. He does that thing that can only be described by Kristen Wiig as she drags that back of her limp hand across her face. It's not pretty.

Oliver Cooper - "Project X" Sometimes dirtbags are funny. One of our nominees this year, Oliver Cooper of "Project X," has the distinct honor of earning nominations for both Best Comedic Performance and Best On-Screen Dirtbag. And that's the beautiful balance that Costa strikes. Yes, he's going to turn up the speed on the treadmill that you're running on, but you'll probably laugh about it later.

Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

Madonna Targets Lady Gaga With 'Express Yourself'/ 'Born This Way' Mashup

Pop Queen's inclusion of lines from her 'She's Not Me' makes medley seem more like dig than tribute.
By John Mitchell

Madonna's diva rivalry with Lady Gaga may be taken up a notch when her MDNA tour kicks off Thursday at Tel Aviv, Israel's Ramat Gan Stadium. In new rehearsal footage, the 53-year-old legend is seen singing a mashup of her "Express Yourself" and Gaga's "Born This Way" that concludes with a few lines from Madonna's copycat-shaming "She's Not Me."

Last year, when Lady Gaga released her hit single "Born This Way," controversy erupted over the song's similarity to Madonna's "Express Yourself." (Never mind that much of the resemblance is rooted in both songs' use of a pretty common disco chord progression.) At first, things seemed cool between the two singers. They'd always gotten along publicly, and Gaga told Jay Leno that M's camp reached out to say all was well in the diva-verse with regard to the songs' similarities (something later denied by Madonna's people).

The whole thing appeared to have blown over until earlier this year, when Madonna was promoting her movie "W.E." and her Super Bowl halftime performance during an ABC News interview. Madonna was asked what she thought of the comparisons, and in response she called Lady Gaga "reductive."

Gaga's been pretty quiet throughout, but it's hard not to wonder if she'll stay that way once word of this latest swipe makes its way to her ears. (Gaga is currently in Asia on her Born This Way Ball tour, and she was recently forced to cancel a planned show in Indonesia after receiving threats from fundamentalist Islamic groups in the country.)

New leaked footage from rehearsals for Madonna's own road show showcases a reportedly planned mashup of "Express Yourself" and "Born This Way," and while the resemblance between the two songs remains as striking as ever, that's not the real story. Just those two songs layered together could have been fun: The two stars certainly have overlapping fanbases, who no doubt would have delighted in the winking acknowledgement of M's influence on Gaga. But Madonna complicates things by concluding the medley with a few lines from her Hard Candy track "She's Not Me," a song about Madonna being emulated by another woman.

The inclusion of "She's Not Me" makes the medley seem like yet another scathing dig at Gaga. It's unknown whether Madonna was just goofing around during rehearsals or whether she plans to include that final digging refrain throughout her tour.

Is Madonna taking things too far, or are we misreading things? Good-natured ribbing or mean-spirited digging? You tell us in the comments below!

Britney Spears Calls 'X Factor' A 'Beautiful Concept'

Spears says she wants to 'inspire' contestants on the Fox show.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears seems poised and ready to sit beside her fellow "X Factor" judges on the revamped second season of the show. At the Fox upfront this week, the singer appeared alongside fellow newbie Demi Lovato, as well as returning judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, and gushed about the Fox reality show.

"Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants ... they're so young and they're trying to fulfill their dreams," she said at the event. "It's just a whole beautiful concept. It's just really cool."

While her negotiations with the show had been making headlines in the weeks leading up to the official announcement, Cowell brushed off all the hoopla, which includes a rumored $15 million payday for joining the show. "A force of nature, I was somewhere in the middle, but I'm thrilled. I love these guys," he said of getting everyone, including Spears, on board. "I charmed her."

Spears seemed equally taken with the prickly Brit. "He's adorable. He's completely adorable. He didn't have to try hard," she admitted.

Spears' addition to the show is hardly the only casting making news: Lovato also opened up about having the "X Factor." While little is known about the final hours going into locking Lovato in for the show, she's rumored to be taking in $1 million, according to Gossip Cop. Lovato was on a short list of possible contenders to appear on the show that also reportedly included Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. "I'm so excited to be here," she said. "I guess you called," she added with Simon by her side. "And that's how it got set up, just a phone call." In addition to getting warm and fuzzy about each other in the interview, Cowell shared that the judges will be filming in the next couple weeks when they hit up Austin, Texas, to begin scoping out talent. And if you think the claws might come out then, Reid assured viewers that that won't be the case. "Oh no, we're gonna be really sweet to each other," he said. "Nothing controversial. It'll be perfect."

Ke$ha Out For Vengeance In Musical March Madness

'I'm getting ready as we speak,' she tells MTV News of this year's tournament, tipping off Monday.
By James Montgomery

Last year, based mainly on her attitude, the fact that she plays an AK-47 shaped guitar and the presence of photos like this, Ke$ha was given an 11 seed in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament — and promptly lost by a huge margin to U2 in the opening round.

Of course, she's spent the past 12 months fuming over that early exit, and now, she's going to get her shot at redemption. Not only is Ke$ha back in the 2012 MMM tournament — which kicks off Monday — but she's beefed up her rock credentials: working with the likes of Alice Cooper, channeling the "sexiness" of '70s rock on her new album, recording a (genuinely pretty great) cover of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" and spending time snorting Tums with Wayne Coyne.

So, yeah, this year, she's ready to knock off the field of 63 other acts gunning for the MMM trophy — a brimming bracket that includes defending champions Green Day, upstarts Fun. and good pals the Black Keys, to name just a few — and reign supreme. But just in case all that rock-and-roll prep work isn't enough to put her over the top, well, Ke$ha has another secret weapon at the ready: an incredibly toned pelvic floor.

"I'm getting ready as we speak. I'm doing Kegels," she told MTV News, while throwing phantom punches at an unsuspecting cameraman. "Vote for me!"

MTV's 2012 Musical March Madness tournament begins Monday, March 12, when we'll unveil the full field of 64 bands that will battle for this year's championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it will be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, it's gonna be a war.
