'American Idol' Castoff Jeremy Rosado Wants To Win 17 Grammys

'That would work for me,' Rosado jokes to MTV News about his awards-filled, post-'Idol' plans.

Jeremy Rosado wasn't exactly surprised to hear his name called during last week's "American Idol" elimination show — telling USA Today he had a "gut feeling" that his time was up — but he was rather shocked to hear "Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine's criticisms of his performance ... mostly because he didn't think they were warranted.

"I didn't think that it was as bad as a couple of them were saying; but, you know, Jimmy's a great guy, and he was hoping for the best ... unfortunately I guess to him it didn't turn out the way he wanted," Rosado told MTV News. "But, I'm grateful, and I'm grateful to ["Idol" judges] Randy [Jackson] and Steven [Tyler] as well. No matter what happened, there were 112,000 people that auditioned for the show, and praise God, they chose me to be in their top 13, you know? I couldn't be more grateful."

Of course, Rosado is most grateful to "Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez, who not only seemed to be his biggest supporter on the show, but coined his now ubiquitous nickname: Jer-Bear. And then, after he had been eliminated, well, she helped change his mood considerably.

"Jer-Bear, yeah, I think I'm going to try and get it copyrighted or something," he laughed. "Jennifer gave me a kiss on my check twice, and I got eliminated that day, but she made me feel a little bit better ... a lot bit better. And to think someone like her or [last week's mentor] Mary J. Blige [could] fall in love with my voice, and with me as a person? That doesn't happen every day, so I'm forever grateful."

And though he'll be the first to admit that his nerves got the better of him last week — "Not being voted into the top 13 definitely played with my head a lot," he said — he's already realizing the benefits that being showcased on "Idol" are pretty great ... and he's looking to take full advantage of them.

"I love acting, and singing is definitely my #1 passion; I'm definitely going to continue to sing," he said. "And hopefully, this is the huge dream, I'm just going to lay it out for you: I'm going to be on a TV show, I'm going to be in a couple movies, I'm going to win an Oscar — this is what I want — I want to win 17 Grammys and, I think that's good. ... That would work for me."

'X Factor' Michael Jackson Night Has Singers On Edge

Meanwhile, Paula Abdul has been absent from the set since her final group was eliminated last week.
By Jim Cantiello

<P><i>MTV News' own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering "The X Factor" rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report!</i> </P><P> </P><P><b>LOS ANGELES</b> &#8212; "The X Factor" top seven are back on the lot after their first (and only) mini-vacation of the season. And as the Thanksgiving tryptophan wears off, the anxiety of another double elimination is setting in. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:714741" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Adding to the stress? "The X Factor" is tackling the songs of Michael Jackson on Wednesday night (November 30), on the 29th anniversary of <i>Thriller</i>'s release, no less. </P><P> </P><P>One of the contestants is so stressed over the theme he's emerged as a total perfectionist. During Monday's rehearsals, he had already nixed multiple arrangements the show had provided him. "This is the most unprepared I've felt on a Monday," he said to his mentor as they rushed out of Stage 36. There was a camera crew chasing them to capture the drama &#8212; as well as the ensuing late-night emergency meeting with the vocal coaches &#8212; so don't be surprised if some of this intense footage ends up in your living room. (This afternoon's dress rehearsal went swimmingly, for the record.) </P><P> </P><P>Meanwhile, one contestant had a full-on battle with his/her mentor over a chair. The mentor said, "Sit and sing." The contestant said, "Again?! How about I do something on my feet for Michael Jackson week?" Another mentor came to the defense of the contestant. In the end, the contestant is sitting after all. Don't worry, contestant. The eerie arrangement of an MJ classic is what folks are going to be buzzing about. No one will care if you sit or stand. In the control room, I spied one of the bigwigs utter the word "brilliant!" after the contestant's dress rehearsal. </P><P> </P><P>Another hot topic: wardrobe! When paying homage to one of the biggest music icons ever, it's tempting for the stylists to include clothing nods to Michael's various looks. But several singers are worried they'll look too much like Jackson impersonators, which has caused many a headache in the wardrobe trailer. But stylist June Ambrose is still able to keep things light in the midst of the drama. While waiting around for a contestant's last-minute fitting, she started an impromptu MJ dance party on the lot. Crotch grabs and "woo" included! </P><P> </P><P>Lastly, Paula Abdul's sunny energy has been noticeably absent on the CBS lot now that all her groups have been eliminated. She went from being the most hands-on mentor to an on-set ghost. "The X Factor" family can't wait to welcome her back for her first live show as strictly a judge. What do you think she's been doing with her newfound free time? </P><P> </P><P><b>You can catch Jim on the "X Factor Pepsi Pre-Show," streaming at 7 p.m. ET tonight on TheXFactorUSA.com!</b></p>

Lady Gaga Collaborator Jonas Akerlund Expects 'Great' Things From Her

'She can probably do anything she wants,' 'Paparazzi' and 'Telephone' director tells us at SXSW.
By Kara Warner

<P>After the mostly positive reviews of Lady Gaga's first music-video directorial effort on "Marry the Night". It's fair to assume that we fans can expect more Gaga-directed clips in the near future. </P><P> </P><P>When MTV News caught up with her "Paparazzi" and "Telephone" director Jonas Åkerlund recently during his SXSW appearance for his new ensemble dark comedy "Small Apartments," we asked him for his thoughts on Gaga's future as a director, should she choose to direct all of her videos from here on out. </P><P> </P><P><center></center> </P><P> </P><P>"She can probably do anything she wants," he said. "So that's probably going to be great." </P><P> </P><P>And would &#197;kerlund make himself available for advice, should Gaga ever be in need of it? </P><P> </P><P>"Of course. I would never turn her down," he said, at which point his "Apartments" star and funnyman Matt Lucas ("Bridesmaids") asked a question of his own. </P><P> </P><P>"Is her real name Lady Gaga?" </P><P> </P><P>"Yes," &#197;kerlund answered with a smile. </P><P> </P><P>"Wow," Lucas responded with astonishment. "There's a fact for you MTV fans." </P><P> </P><P>Although &#197;kerlund didn't mention any more work with Gaga at this time, the busy director is still fully in the mix of the world of music videos. </P><P> </P><P>"I may do a couple music videos and I've done quite a few since 'Small Apartments,' actually. The last one I did was a Duran Duran video, but there's a few coming up too." </P><P> </P><P>"Are you going to do the Osmonds video?" Lucas asked cheekily. "That's what they're asking." </P><P> </P><P>"Maybe," &#197;kerlund responded, playing along with Lucas' joke. "I'm hoping to." </P><P> </P><P>For her part, Gaga has said that she's always been heavily involved in the creative processes behind all her work, including the direction of her music videos. </P><P> </P><P>"I know it's my directorial debut, but I've really created everything I've ever done in my career," she said. "I really didn't do anything differently on this video that I didn't do on the 'Telephone' video or the 'Paparazzi' video or the 'Bad Romance' video. I hope my fans will take from this the progression that you have to trust yourself to make mistakes."</p>
