Will Black Keys Team Up With Ke$ha? First They Want Jim Nabors

The duo sat down with MTV News in Berlin to discuss a pair of unlikely collaborations.

<P>Theirs is a relationship that has spanned time and Twitter, seafood and shaving, but over the years, the unlikely bond between the Black Keys and Ke$ha has grown to become something <i>more</i>: a genuine friendship, marked with the occasional trespassing charge. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:731631.id:1678505" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "We're friends with her, we've known her since way before she was famous, before she was even a singer, I guess," Keys drummer Patrick Carney told MTV News. "When she was 16 years old, she used to sneak into our shows. We kind of became friends with her by kicking her out of our backstage room, over and over again. She actually has snuck into shows in L.A., San Diego, Coachella ..." "She snuck in and [got] kicked out of one show, like, <i>five</i> times," frontman Dan Auerbach added. "[She] snuck in through the kitchen. I don't know if she's such a big fan; she just likes breaking the rules." So, when MTV News sat down with the 'Keys in Berlin during the premiere of their "Gold on the Ceiling" video, we had to ask if their friendship with Ke$ha would take the next step: an actual musical collaboration. It's not all that far-fetched, considering both Ke$h and Auerbach live in Nashville ("I see her every once in a while flying by in her T-Top [convertible]," Auerbach laughed), and recently, the glittery one has logged studio time with the Flaming Lips. So, could we see a team-up on the next Black Keys album? "I guess, I don't know," Carney said. "We don't really do that many collaborations, really." OK, so if a Ke$ha collabo isn't in the cards, just who would the 'Keys like to work with next? Well, as it turns out, they've got their eyes set on landing a very big star for the next record ... even if they mistakenly believe he's deceased. "We both want to work with Jim Nabors very badly, but apparently he's not with us anymore," Carney said. Oh, but he is. Which means that, much like Nabors, the dream is alive. The Ke$ha collabo? Eh, probably not so much. <i>Should the Black Keys hit the studio with Ke$ha? Leave your comment below!</i></p>

Celebrity Breakups: Heidi Klum & Seal Divorce

Heidi Klum and Seal

They've shared one of the most passionate unions in Tinseltown, so it comes as sad and surprising news that Heidi Klum is getting divorced from husband Seal. Seal was the special guest during Monday's (January 23) taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". With the episode set to air later this week, the 48-year-old British singer opened up about ending his marriage with wife of six and a half years, Heidi Klum, telling, ?I think we were shocked. You go into these things with the greatest intentions when you say ?I do? and you say ?til death do us part.? Those vows hold value. They are not just words? You try and you work through it and the thing that you quickly realize when you are married and you become a parent you do the best that you can." "It makes you actually appreciate your parents a lot more. The thing that I?m most proud about this great woman who married (and I really do mean that from the bottom of my heart), is that together she has given me four incredible gifts?four beautiful children [Leni, Henry, Johan, and Lou]. She still, in my opinion, the most wonderful woman in the world. I think our priority was to remain civil and do this thing with dignity. We still very much love each other,? Seal, who also performed ?Let?s Stay Together? for the daytime talk show, added. ?To say that neither of us were grieving would be an out and out lie (and I don?t mind telling you that). I think the operative here is that we are civil to each other and we both have a tremendous amount of respect and love and we try and do this with as much dignity as we possibly can.? Meanwhile, the "Kiss From a Rose" singer also commented on the fact that he was still sporting his wedding band, as he explained, ?Yes, I am still wearing my ring. I think it?s just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years. Eight wonderful years together. Just because we have decided to separate doesn?t necessarily mean you take off your ring and you?re no longer connected to that person. We will be connected in many ways ?til the rest of our lives?. though our children and also through this tremendous admiration, respect and love that we have for each other. Will we wear the ring for the rest of our lives? Who knows? But right now it feels really comfortable on my hand so I have intentions of taking it off anytime soon.? [gallery=811]Heidi Klum and Seal

<P>Etta James died on Friday (January 20) at the age of 73 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. The singer is being remembered by Beyoncé, who has quite the history with her. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:727109.id:1677649" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen," Beyonc&#233; wrote on her blog. "Her musical contributions will last a lifetime. Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed." Photos: The life and career of Etta James.</b> B famously portrayed the blond jazz singer in the 2008 biopic "Cadillac Records." Her version of "At Last" from the film's soundtrack would later win a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Beyonc&#233;'s version of James' iconic ballad once-again made headlines when she performed the track at President Obama's inaugural ball in 2009. The performance was initially met with some criticism from the always-outspoken James, but she later came around. Beyonc&#233; is the latest in a long line of celebrities paying tribute to James. "Showing respect, appreciation and love for all the wonderful music and joy #ettajames brought to the world...#ettajamesforever," Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am wrote on Twitter. Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams recalled how James' music influenced her. "#EttaJames, I will be forever grateful for your voice and your soul. Rest in peace." Rapper Flo Rida &#8212; whose latest hit, "Good Feeling," samples James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me" &#8212; wrote, "I'm deeply saddened by the passing of the Great Etta James and I will be forever grateful for the gift she Blessed me with." <i>Share your condolences with Etta James' friends and family on our Facebook page.</i></p>

Nicki Minaj is in takeover mode. The Young Money rapper donned her best cheerleader outfit for the Super Bowl halftime show with Madonna on Sunday night, and next week she'll storm the Grammys — performing her new song "Roman Holiday" — before officially releasing her latest Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded single "Starships."

On Monday, February 13, just a day after the Grammy telecast, Nicki's "Starships" will premiere on Ryan Seacrest's radio show and make its way to iTunes shortly afterward.

Minaj gave fans the first preview of her sophomore album with the single "Roman in Moscow" back in November, followed by "Stupid Hoe" in December. The release of the Hype Williams-directed video for "Stupid Hoe" last month was accompanied by an announcement that her much-anticipated album would be pushed from its original February 14 release date to April 3.

"New Album Date: April 3rd. Pink Friday: ROMAN RELOADED," Minaj wrote to her loyal followers on Twitter. "But have no fear. Tons of surprises before then ;). Love Always, HB."

One of those surprises will come at this year's Grammy Awards, where Nicki is set to perform a brand-new, unreleased single, "Roman Holiday" (the tune will also appear on Roman Reloaded). The performance will mark her first time on the Grammy stage, an honor she adds to noms for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album for her 2010 debut Pink Friday.

Cash Money Records CEO Birdman is among the few who have already heard Minaj's new album, and he's given it glowing reviews. "She's grown so much as an artist. She's so talented that this sh-- is scary," he told Complex. "She really is the female Weezy. Hands down, she bad as a mother----er. Her talents, skills and what she's done with her music and the way she is in front of a camera. She's just so talented to be so young. It's a brand-new style. I'm just so glad she's on our team."

The 54th annual Grammy Awards are set to air Sunday, February 12, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.

Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Don't miss Sway and James Montgomery live from the Grammys red carpet this Sunday, February 12, for a full three hours of mayhem, starting at 5 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And the fun doesn't end Sunday: MTV News has you covered until the Grammy hangover wears off!

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images

<P>Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended <i>very</i> early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures. To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere. According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned <i>down</i> Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town. Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures &#8212; Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar &#8212; ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called <i>Never Deserved the Future,</i> and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans). The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard &#8212; Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" &#8212; delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the <i>Chicago Sun-Times'</i> Jim DeRogatis. It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures &#8212; there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October. Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site &#8212; posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a <i>Deserve the Future</i> T-shirt. Cost: $30.</p>

Justin Bieber's Bodyguard Scuffles With Paparazzo At LAX

Altercation occurred when photographer refused to stop snapping shots of Bieber, who was at airport to pick up family.

Justin Bieber's bodyguard got into a scuffle with a paparazzo at LAX airport on Monday. According to reports, the bodyguard intervened when the photographer refused to stop snapping the pop star's photo.

"Today at approximately 2:15 p.m., Los Angeles Airport Police observed what appeared to be a crowd control incident at Terminal 4 on the upper departures level involving Justin Bieber. An investigation revealed an altercation occurred between an unnamed body guard (victim) and a photographer (paparazzi) at the location," a Los Angeles Airport Police official told E! News about the incident.

In the same statement, the police official explained that the paparazzo was ultimately detained by officials. "[The] twenty-one-year-old ... photographer, a resident of Van Nuys, Calif., was arrested and transported to the Airport Police Station for pre-booking procedures," the statement reads. "He was later transported to the LAPD Pacific Division Jail and booked for California Penal Code Section 245 — Assault with a Deadly Weapon — a felony."

In footage obtained by TMZ, the photographer and Bieber's bodyguard are seen tussling with each other before the bodyguard punches him in the face. Later on, officials arrived and handcuffed the photographer.

Bieber was at the airport picking up his family. He tweeted about meeting up with them, but never mentioned the incident. "I have my family with me...been a while. BEST FEELING. I love being a BIG BROTHER! #FAMILY," he wrote.

Bieber recently tweeted about another incident that took place at an airport. When it was reported that he had ignored his fans, he wanted to clarify that that's not what happened. "The other day in the airport i got surrounded by 20 paps. I dont like small spaces and i just wanted to get on the plane. I ran to get thru the gate and there is a video of me running by fans and on the other side you dont see the 20 paps. I would never run by my fans... and for those that i did pass that day I AM SORRY. I know my fans are my everything. I know my responsibility to them. I LOVE MY BELIEBERS," he said of the incident, which took place in late January.

"So as i get older i know i will learn to deal with these things better and better just still learning," he added. "Still human. just had to get that out."

Bieber has always had an interesting relationship with the paps. In March 2011, he gave them the middle finger after being surrounded by photographers following a birthday dinner with his girlfriend, Selena Gomez. He later apologized for the incident.

Taylor Kitsch's Super Bowl Ads Needed More Taylor Kitsch

'Friday Night Lights' actor, set to break out in 'John Carter,' 'Battleship,' should have been featured more prominently.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Millions of people around the world were introduced to Taylor Kitsch Sunday night. The Canadian actor found himself at the center of two of the Super Bowl's biggest movie ads for his first two starring roles, in "John Carter" and "Battleship," but the trailers may not have been the first impression Kitsch was hoping for.

Kitsch made a name for himself starring as the misunderstood bad boy Tim Riggins on the beloved but criminally under-watched NBC series "Friday Night Lights." Riggins grew dear to the show's viewers because of the charm and likability Kitsch brought to the character, despite a tough exterior. Throughout the show's run, it was never a stretch to imagine the actor making the crossover to big-budget action movies with his charisma as hard evidence of his bankability.

But for his Super Bowl debuts, the studios behind "John Carter" and "Battleship" took the focus off of their star and instead cut special-effects shots together, leaving Kitsch as little more than background noise.

The "John Carter" trailer that aired during the game handled its time the most curiously. Beginning with a shot of Kitsch from the film, the footage grew smaller, eventually becoming part of a large collection of footage that formed letters spelling out the title of the film. By the time most of the video appeared on the screen, it was too small to make any sense of it.

What many people may not have known was that an extended version of the commercial, one with full-sized footage from the film, appeared online shortly after. That trailer showed off Kitsch during action sequences instead of zooming away from him.

The ad for "Battleship" approached promoting a big-budget sci-fi movie in a more traditional way, albeit one that also put Kitsch in the background. The spot played more like a commercial for the other series of movies based on Hasbro toys, "Transformers," and the scattered nature of it might have left people wondering whether the film stars Kitsch, Liam Neeson or Rihanna.

Sure, these are just commercials, but if 2012 is going to be the year that Taylor Kitsch makes the crossover from TV heartthrob to viable action star, studios ought to realize who they're working with and put the man front and center.

Check out everything we've got on "John Carter" and "Battleship."
